poster design
the poster was designed to look like a collage — a reference to the home improvement intro. i used different textures of paper to suggest what room the person depicted was living in / what room they were in / what their personality might be. most of the paper textures are from texturelabs. for the illustrations, i used the ugly markers by alex kiesling. they’re amazing for getting realistic markers digitally. i also used them in some illustrations i did for lomography.
poster photos
we did the photo shooting for the poster in my apartment. some of the resulting photos are quite funny, because i was planning to cut them out anyway. at this point, the script wasn’t finalized yet, so i tried to come up with as many different activities that i could. ones they could do where they would annoy/distract a neighbor, and ones where they would be on the receiving end.
the shooting was really fun, and made me think i could maybe give directing a shot too :1)
i gave broad directions for the talent based on the action and emotion i wanted. as opposed to the final mood of the film though, i wanted the poster not to look too self-serious.
