in 2025, i was very desperate for a job. through a friend, i got this gig as an extra in a gambling ad. i wasn’t thrilled, but thought that it might lead to a better job at the company making the ad. i was ballsy enough to ask, and the p.a. told me to e-mail them with my portfolio. that’s how i got this internship at mxr. it was paid very poorly, and it was only an internship, but i was desperate to get off of ams and their annoying mandatory courses. it seemed like a good enough opportunity… a self-styled hip, young ad agency, with all the big, big clients. if i hadn’t already been quite disillusioned with the industry, this would’ve been huge for me. at least i thought, the big names would look impressive in my portfolio. was it worth it though? probably, definitely not – the experiences i made there were horrifying. the married couple that owned the company were some of the most unpleasant humans i ever had the displeasure of working for. go take a look at the kununu reviews of this company. the ones they didn’t write themselves or pay for speak for themselves.
