rainbow media
work from my employment as graphic designer at the lgbtqi+ focused marketing company rainbow media. in this time i redesigned two brands and their e-commerce sites, created packaging designs, ad banners, social media posts and videos, illustrations and newsletters.
warning: mild sexual content ahead
satislove
another brand i was asked to design was satislove. i know, creative name, right? it was supposed to be a subscription box of sextoys and accessories, but it never got out of the design exploration phase because of time management issues.
poppers.at
one of the brands/e-commerce sites i redesigned was poppers.at. at first, i was only tasked with redesigning it’s newsletter, but when my design was seen, i was asked to redesign the whole brand and website.
for anyone who doesn’t know what poppers are: poppers are a kind of drug, mostly harmless and popular in gay clubs because of its quick high and muscle relaxing effect, which makes it popular for anal sex. it’s legal to sell it in most countries, but it’s sold as other things, like leather cleaner or shoe polish.

i couldn’t change too much of the old design, as to not make the brand unrecognizable. the old site screams untrustworthy, though. pretty much everyone i have shown it to has said they wouldn’t put their bank details into that site, which is no surprise. my goal was to make the brand seem more trustworthy and cool.
one of the first things i knew i had to change was the font. choosing a variable font was essential for me, because of the layout benefits it would give.
i obviously chose “obviously” by oh no type co. it seemed like the perfect choice for something like this, with it’s striking graphical and commercial feel.
choosing a variable font also meant i could do some fun interaction animations, like this header:
another thing that had to go was any sort of text shadow, gradient or photographic texture. i wanted the brand to feel graphic and intentional(ly over the top).
design elements that stayed: colors, logo (with subline in the new font), layout/structure. the newsletter only had a minor overhaul of the type and images. in order not to change too much at once, i left the established sections.
these sections were: a header image, products, a poppers (apparently you don’t say one popper, but one poppers…) of the month, and at the end, a section called “hottie of the week”, where my colleague peter would write a short story about sex and using poppers, always very camp and over the top.
for some visual interest, i took some abstract shapes from the logo of poppers.at:

each of the shop categories would have their own header illustration for some visual interest and polish.
poppersshop.com
this site was a very similar story, with pretty much the same considerations and changes.
because i had just done most of the design of poppers.at, and we had a good shopware base theme, i went straight to code, only making changes where necessary.

poppers
i was even asked to design some poppers as well. it was actually really fun having the opportunity to make something super cheesy.
sadly, the company had to downsize due to money problems before any were printed, so i doubt they’ll ever materialize outside the digital world.
that’s why i wanted to make some visualizations of my designs that are as silly as the designs themselves.
ojo
ojo was made to be a cheap condom brand. supposedly it’s the same thing as the more expensive ones… my colleague peter made the logo, i only designed the packaging. my goal was to communicate effectively that this was a cheaper product than the established brands.
anyway, it was decided that there would only be one flavor: standard.
from kings to queens
i also had the pleasure of attending and taking pictures of the drag show “from kings to queens”. here are some highlights.
final thoughts
the sad part is, that the websites and my designs in general are now floating in a sort of limbo, since the company was downsized due to money problems. that’s why i can’t say if it will ever see the light of day.
